Domain 4:
Professional Responsibilities

Professional Development

Over the course of my time at the French American School, I have sought out numerous opportunities for professional development. These opportunities have enabled me to enrich my work as a librarian across multiple domains, including as the librarian for the high school IB Diploma Program, as a primary resource on campus for the uses and citation of artificial intelligence (AI), and as the person responsible for collection development.

Artificial Intelligence

In order to try to stay abreast of developments in AI, I have taken several courses focused on the applications of AI, supporting faculty use of AI, and methods for preventing students from unauthorized use of AI. I also attended the New York Library Association's full day, statewide PD session on AI.

IB Librarianship

In February 2024 I attended "The Role of the Librarian," a blended format, multi-day workshop provided by the International Baccalaureate. This Category 3 IB workshop provided me the opportunity to meet with librarians from across North America working in IB programs at all levels--the Primary Years Programme, the Middle Years Programme, and the Diploma Programme--and share best practices and resources for meeting the needs of the IB programme and its learners.

Collection Development and Librarianship

Through attending BOCES workshops and conferences, I extended my professional learning across several aspects of librarianship, including collection development, student engagement, and makerspace activities.

Communicating with Community

At a campus in which faculty are often teaching at two different buildings and often lack common planning periods, the library serves as a community space, both physically and virtually, to connect faculty across campuses.  To cultivate this sense of community, each month I write a newsletter for the entire high school faculty that highlights teaching and learning resources pertinent to the particular celebrations and/or observances of that month, along with services and resources available to them in through the school library.  Below is a small sample of the newsletters I create, using Canva, and disseminate to the faculty; clicking on a image will take you to the full, 2-page newsletter.
