BookSwim
The online portfolio of an aspiring school librarian
Hi! I'm Lauren.
Welcome to my portfolio!
I'm an experienced educator, with over a decade of classroom experience as an English teacher at the middle school, high school, and collegiate levels, currently in the process of transitioning to a career as a school library media specialist.
I've put together this website as a way to collate all of the projects I've completed during the course of my Information Science School Library program at the University of Albany. Projects include a school library administration portfolio, an anti-bias education pathfinder, digital artifacts for engaging students, a feminism and children's literature Padlet, and a Book Bento.
As a lifelong bibliophile and accumulator of miscellaneous knowledge, becoming a school library media specialist means having the opportunity to combine my love of books, my skills as an educator, my knowledge of information fluency, and my dedication to the ethical use of information to prepare the next generation of students with the skills and knowledge they will need to navigate an exponentially saturated world of information, while also empowering them discover books that inspire and delight them.
I've named my website BookSwim because there are few things I love more than proverbially diving into a book and getting lost in the sea of words, which is made even more enjoyable when I'm doing so at one of the beaches of Cape Cod, captured in the header image above. In that spirit, I invite you to dive on in to my corner of the internet, where the water is fine and the creations are, of course, all mine.
Happy swimming!
Lauren
